Multiple-use forests and reindeer husbandry – Case of pendulous lichens in continuous cover forests

چکیده
Competition for land use between forestry and reindeer husbandry has been debated in northern Finland, particularly due to the possible adverse effects of on availability forage resources reindeer. In an attempt achieve a better reconciliation these uses, as well promote multiple forest use, we studied 37 stand-, plot-, tree-level variables pendulous lichens (Alectoria sp., Bryoria sp. Usnea sp.), compared two methods continuous cover (CCF) lichen occurrence Finnish Lapland. The main findings study indicate that number years after cutting, trunk diameter increase probability occurrence. highest by tree species was achieved Norway spruce (Picea abies (L) Karst), area, southern western parts area. Of CCF – small gap cutting selection former slightly more successful maintaining lichens, especially addition, ground coverage indicating degree xeric features stand reduced Furthermore, our data with reference material, found stands present maintained than managed young thinning stands, but less mature even-aged forests. This shows order reconcile herding larger trees should be saved, cycle kept long possible. lichen-rich areas excluded from logging, access those secured. studied, could viable method reconciling husbandry, forests, it allows keep at least intact longer period time, which advances growth lichens. Selection turn, affects whole removes large trees, are advantageous

ISSN 1652-6880, ISBN 978-91-576-7387-9 The decrease in old-growth forests threatens the diversity of a range of organisms. Only a small portion of the forested area in Sweden is formally protected and the majority of unprotected forests are young (<70 years). The objective of this thesis...
متن کاملOccurrence Patterns of Lichens on Stumps in Young Managed Forests
The increasing demand for forest-derived bio-fuel may decrease the amount of dead wood and hence also the amount of available substrate for saproxylic ( = dead-wood dependent) organisms. Cut stumps constitute a large portion of dead wood in managed boreal forests. The lichen flora of such stumps has received little interest. Therefore, we investigated which lichens that occur on stumps in young...
متن کاملModeling the Degradation of Hyrcanian Forests Using Logestic Regression Method (Case Study: Shenrood Forests, Guilan)
Having accurate quantitative and qualitative information about the state of forest stands, is necessary for any basic management and planning, to reduce the effects of forest degradation. The current study aimed to model the destruction of Hyrcanian forests under the effects of density and volume (per hectare) variables, using logistic regression. In total, 252 plots of 1000 m2 area were measur...

While in recent years, due to numerous reasons, the amount of travel and tourism has increased, the amount of problems caused by this activity is also considered by managers. By using presence points of tourists in Javanrud County, Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and Random Forest (RF) models, the conditions of establishment of tourists from the aspect of land use planning was investigated. In...
متن کاملPlanning horizons and end conditions for sustained yield studies in continuous cover forests
The contemporary forestry preoccupation with non-declining even-flow during yield simulations detracts from more important questions about the constraints that should bind the end of a simulation. Whilst long simulations help to convey a sense of sustainability, they are inferior to stronger indicators such as the optimal state and binding conditions at the end of a simulation. Rigorous definit...
